Mom and Dad are right when they tell you to step high so you don't get your foot caught in the escalator.
I didn't believe my parents (I am not sure there even were escalators when I was a kid) and I never told my kids to worry about the top or bottom of the escalator.
I should have been more careful.
A 27-year old woman had her big toe severed after it got caught in an
escalator at a railway station in Japan. There was a hole in the vertical part of the step just in front of her.
"Hmm...I wonder if my toe will fit in there," the woman pondered as she considered all those warnings from her parents, grandparents, the signs posted and the voice on the speaker.
The toe fit and it's still there...going round and round.
When the step receded...well, ooouuUUCHH!
The escalator stopped immediately but too late for the big toe.

Why did the blonde girl spend three hours on the escalator?
The electric power went out.
