Phil and Penny Knight are now the largest donors in the University of Oregon's history - large as in big givers, not as in physical size.
The founder of Nike gave the university $100 million, the largest single gift ever to UO, to create the Oregon Athletics Legacy fund.
The couple has given previous gifts to fund the School of Law, the UO libraries and more than 15 endowed faculty positions as well as a number of
academic and athletic gifts.Guess we know who owns University of Oregon, don't we?![]()
The $100 million gift is two-thirds of a needed $150 million in hopes that someone/s else will step up to make up the difference.
When I was preparing to go to Japan many years ago as a missionary, I received a pledge/gift if somebody matched it.
It was great incentive/motivation for me.
I got the matching gifts and true to his word the original pledger doubled it.
Well done, Phil and Penny Knight!
