Japan's education Ministry plans to offer an internship program in 2008 designed to help doctorate students in the science fields gain some practical work experience and product development knowledge, thus making them more desirable to prospective employers.
Japan has the status of technology powerhouse and wants to keep it...by encouraging science students to pursue
doctorate degrees. Each year...about 6,000 candidates get their PhD.
However, companies don't want the nerds; they can't communicate and don't work well with others.
Just 2.9% of scientists in Japanese firms have a PhD.
The Education Ministry will select about 500 students and researchers from 15 or so universities to work in internships for up to one year in hopes of making them more appealing to Japanese firms.
Japan has about 15,000 postdoctoral researchers looking for jobs.
When is too much learning too much?
