China's too best universities - Tsinghua University and Beijing University are suffering from too many groups of tourists.
Each day 4,000-10,000 tourists visit the campuses.
The tourists sit on landmarks, haul luggage and picnic items into classrooms, talk out loud thus destroying the academic ambience.
Litter, destruction of the lawn, graffiti....
Travel agencies arrange college travel tours for families who want to motivate their children by experiencing
the ivory towers.The schools are 'fighting back' by requiring tour companies to schedule in advance, limit travel routs and organizing volunteer guides.
I have been to Stanford's campus a few times and I have to admit that I can't tell a tourist from a student unless they are carrying books.
