A survey by the Shanghai education authority has come up with results that back up what kids have been saying all along.
Nearly 2 out of 5 students in middle and high school receive private tutoring or take additional lessons after school in Chinese, mathematics and English.
Students who studied too much and students who did too little got poorer marks.
Homework that took 1-2 hours was best.
When students worked with private tutors for 3+ hours they tended to do even
worse on their exams.
Students who studied alone had the best results.
"Mom. I finished my one hour English lesson with Mr. Smith and my one hour lesson in Chinese lesson with Ms. Wang. I'm tired...and...hungry."
"Shut up! And, get to your math lesson. Besides, I'm going to be late for my pedicure."
