
A study coming out of UCLA's Center for Health Policy Research said 1.8 million Californians had diabetes in 2005, up 6.2% from 2001.
There were no racial and ethnic boundaries except for blacks who have the highest overall prevalance rates.
The worst news is "the most dramatic increases in prevalence among those least able to manage the disease
properly, such as the poor and those with inadequate access toLos Angeles county is home to a half million diabetics, the largest number by county in the states.
The president and CEO of the California Endowment, which provided funding for the research is predicting "The diabetes epidemic will have a crippling effect on the state if it continues to go unchecked."
It is already having a crippling effect on those of us who may pay out the wazoo for health care...and it's going to get worse before it gets better.
