6 Ways OSU Football Coach Mike Gundy Embarrasses Himself in Rant Against Jenni Carlson

It seems Oklahoma State Football Coach Mike Gundy would like to have Daily Oklahoman Columnist Jenni Carlson square off against his team.

Instead....I think he needs to get back in the planning room to consider his game strategy.

Rather...he does a pretty good job of making himself look downright foolish.

In the YouTube video:

1. Coach Gundy admits - he didn't read the article - then proceeds to rant and rave about what it says.

Uh...Coach? You may be right about some things, but you are looking pretty stupid making comments about something you haven't read.

2. He then goes on to say, "I think this is worth reading."

Uh...Coach...which is it? Something we should read or not?

3. He tells the listeners - 3/4ths of it is inaccurate.

Coach...which parts are inaccurate? The parts you didn't read or some other parts?

4. The article, "Embarrasses me to be involved with athletics," he says calmly before someone says "Hike!" and he turns up the energy level.

Uh...Coach...you are doing a fine job of embarrassing yourself. And, at what point is asking a writer to be more credible in their reporting an embarrassment to athletics?

5. The coach admits that a columnist's facts should be checked. However, "this article had to have been written by someone who doesn't have a child..."

Uh...Coach...did you check out your facts?

6. "I hope someday you have a child and someone downgrades him and belittles him..."

Yup...Coach...that'll show them. Treat them the way you have been treated, right?

Aren't we glad this coach gets paid $800k to teach our kids?

You too can join in the excitement at Mike Gundy is mad at you

I think Coach Gundy is saying that he doesn't typically read that paper or columnist but he read it because it was brought to him by a mother. In my opinion the article was shoddy journalism at best. While the coach did go psycho, it was clear he cares about his players - as people. This story had little to do with football. I would play for this guy and work for this guy. His commitment to his team and this young man is exemplary. The player had been demoted to 2nd string and disappointed the team and coaches in his ability to play football. Yet the player had kept a good attitude and the coach still cared about him and how people treated him. The coach was offended that he was belittled not because of his football play, but because he was "nervous" or "eating chicken" after a game. I wish we had more coaches that cared about protecting kids rather than seeing them exploited.

Perhaps Coach Gundy was off the wall in that he admitted he hadn't read the article he teed off on but like many people he is sick to death of the media which makes it's living off the sweat of people who actually work for a living like Coach Gundy and his players. Though they may be amateur athletes they "work" in the sense that they are in college due to their athletic scholarships and do physical work through their efforts on the field of play. People who earn their living, honorable in most cases, as journalists enjoy the insulation of their profession and who have the privilege to comment on the lives of others while exposing themselves to no public scrutiny at all. It is the incessant attacks of the media on both public and private figures which sell ads in newspapers and on T.V. and radio. Some innocent lives are marred and journalists who hide behind the 1st amendment are free and clear of the ensuing damage. This is in all likely hood what the coach was ranting over.

It's time somebody in the football world finaly spoke up. Good job Coach Gundy

6 Ways Mr. Belew just embarrassed himself.

1. Coach Gundy said he doesn't read that paper, but went on to say that a mother brought it to him and then he read it. Did you watch the report? If not, you're looking pretty stupid talking about something you didn't watch.

2. He said it was worth reading so everyone could see how callous that newspaper and it's staff could be. Do I really have to spell it out for you?

3. If he had wanted you to know which parts were inaccurate, I'm sure he would have told you. Since it was really none of your business, he didn't.

4. He is simply stating that athletics departments are targets for unscrupulous reporters and hacks like you, and it is embarrassing to know there are human beings out there like you.

5. Since the coach and the reporter in question are well acquainted with each other, I'd say he knew the facts...unless you are her love child?

6. Coach Gundy was accurately surmising the only way that Ms. Carlson ever would have a chance in hades of understanding that she was wrong in writing that article.

I wish we had more Coach Gundy's guiding our kids, and fewer Carlson's and Belew's.....

good for gundy - the article was personal, pissy, and degrading. not to mention uniformed. i do notice that columinsts and commentators who've actually participated in sports tend to side with gundy, while the geeks (this guy, and skippy bayless, for example) are just aghast (because they just can't get it).
