September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Two American friends, John "Ol Chumbucket" Baur and Mark "Capn Slappy" Summers, started the fad in the 90's but it took off when columnist Dave Barry heard about it.
So, how does one talk on International Talk Like a Pirate Day (TLAPD).
Some tips -
1. All words with an 'r' in them get stretched out. "arrrrre you underrrrrrstandin;?"
2. It's not 'you' ... it's 'ye' or 'yer.'
3. No 'for'...it's 'fer'
5. Ferget the 'g' at the end of the sentences. No need sayin' anymer than needs rrrepeatin' when it comes ter talkin.
6. Use the word 'be' a lot. Do you be underrrstandin?
7. When in doubt...say "Arrrrr" a lot
And, iff'n yer hab interrrrnet on yer pirrrate ship.....yer can be a checkin out Talk Like a Pirate fer allthem finerrrrr points.
How will you celebrate TLAPD?
