"I'm so excited about this," said an education professor.
Whoopee! There is a pay disparity.
What happened was the educator had been working for Adelphi University for 30 years, reached the rank of full professor and learned that she was paid less than the guy across the hall.
She's excited because the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) determined that an unlawful pay equity existed and that it needed to be fixed, not to mention back pay....I think.
The university, of course, says the compensation records "show no discrimination ..."
Lawyer for the educators say, "We were able to get information that allowed us to compare salaries of both men and women throughout the university, with respect to all their full-time professors ... ," ... "and we found a number of instances that suggested to us there was a pay disparity between men and women within the same departments and within the same rank."
Some 40-60 females were paid less.
The American Association of University Professors AAUP said the organization did its own survey of faculty pay in 2002 and found disparity along the lines of what the EEOC noted...but did not act on it.
Court to follow....
We know that women and men who do the same job are entitled to the same pay. We KNOW that. So, why doesn't it happen?
