Tania Head is apparently a cheat, as is 'Captain' Scott Shields.
Perhaps the two can form a 9/11 survivors' cheater's network (SCN).
One of the commenters to my original post - Tania Head - Teaching the World Liars Can Get Ahead?
wrote something I wanted to say but didn't have the courage -
"Just look at that pathetic creature. Overweight, homely and desparate for attention. What's amazing is that anybody believed she had a fiancee not that she is a 9/11 survivor."
When I first saw her picture, I thought 'there is no way such a big woman could do what she did....no way.'
Scott Shields is another phoney who fooled senators tv and movie stars, news reporters, Guiliani, the US Coast Guard and has been nailed with a federal indictment.

Yet another commenter has mentioned, another woman fraudulently claiming to be a survivor of the attack on the WTC - "Dr. Kaz deMille-Jacobsen."

So, what is it with people wanting/being so opportunistic?
And, why are their stories so readily believed?
I admit....I didn't believe them, only because I didn't know who they were till this week.
One of the basic lessons my students cover in their beginning writing classes....check their sources for credibility.
Apparently there are lots of people who do NOT and sleazy people who will capitalize on it.
What do you think?

Phony "Captain" Scott Shields Story Revisited:
If reporters had checked their facts and not simply regurgitated what Shields told them and posted to his internet site then he would not have been able to do what he did. Three newspapers and 4 reporters who checked their facts and got it right are:

I applaud you in encouraging students to check their facts with primary sources--and cross checking!
