When the 87-year old's daughter returned a book her mother had borrowed from the library the attendant said "that'll be 50 cents."
"Excuse me, but my mother died. That's why the book is late."
"That will be 50 cents."
Her mother died of a stroke and the woman was simply trying to put things in order when she returned the book “The Price of Silence,” by Camilla Trinchieri.
However, the librarian, who had no doubt heard it all once before just wanted the money.
The library refused comment until a few days later when an employee called to
apologize and offered to return the fine she had paid.
I dunno...it sure seems like an awful fuss for fifty cents. No doubt, much more time and energy was wasted than the 50 cent fine in the end.
Were it me, I would have told the attendant to collect it from my mother...and left.
Have you ever had an incident where the person on the other side of the counter was completely unreasonable?
