Talk about starting university life with a strike or two against you....
1st strike - the students are dirt poor.
2nd strike - the poor students from southern China, some 1,300 of them, were given special treatment...a free trip on the train to their school in Beijing.
The train was a special train - free of charge on September 5, 2007 only.
Impoverished students were allowed the one time trip to ensure their arrival at
universities on time.
Yeah...and they also got to wear signs - "I'M BROKE and RIDING FOR FREE."
Is there a reason why the Chinese Ministry of Railway couldn't just issue them a pass of some sort and let them ease their way in among the rest of the crowd on the train?
