I am usually a pretty good speller and reader of words that I have never met before.
When I was growing up we learned to read and spelly phonetically. My little sister, a few years behind me can't spell worth a darn. She was taught to memorize how words were spelled.
President Bush must have gone to school with my sister. Even he makes fun of himself for his habit of mangling the English language.
When an advanced copy of his speech was sent to UN interpreters who needed to be prepared to simultaneously translate his speech, it became obvious how the
leader of the free world gets his pronunciations right. Names are given
pronunication cues.French President Nicolas Sarkozy (sar-KO-zee) and Zimbabwe leader Robert Mugabe (moo-GAH-bee), Kyrgyzstan (KEYR-geez-stan), Mauritania (moor-EH-tain-ee-a) and the Zimbabwe capital Harare (hah-RAR-ray)....and so on.
Whitehouse spokeswoman Dana Perino said "I don't know how the draft of the speech that was not final was posted but it was and it was taken back. There was an error made."
Yeah, but did he get the names right in his speech?
Are you a good reader/speller?
