The girl's sister was handicapped.
When the principal, according to the family, could not get any support from the municipal board of education, he found the case overwhelming and hanged himself in a cemetery.
His wife asked the Prefectural Board of Education to recognize his suicide as an accident (an oxymoron indeed).
The board claimed that Okuda committed suicide as a result of excessive stress stemming from his efforts to settle the matter.
It was agreed and his family will receive due compensation.
