Stan Laurel of Laurel and Hardy wrote 18 letters and sent three pictures to a fan over a 10-year period starting in 1952.
A letter is a handwritten correspondence, sometimes typed, that is put in a envelope and mailed, sometimes lost, by the post office...for those who don't know what is meant by a letter. It is NOT just an 'a', a 'b', or a 'c'.
The letters were written from luxurious hotels where Stan Laurel stayed while
trouring to Walterina Hunter of Edinburgh.
The letters are being auctioned and are expected to fetch about $4,000.
Laurel confided in Hunter that he was "very upset" by the death of his partner, Oliver Hardy. I don't think there is any secret there...but.
Laurel also said that though he was very upset, he didn't attend the funeral upon advice from his doctor.
Laurel suffered a nervous breakdown after Hardy died.![]()
Laurel also told his pen pal that he stayed away from the studios "because I don't know anyone there and would feel like a stranger."
Laurel and Hardy are no strangers, however, to their many fans...even though it was more than a half century ago.
Laurel only met Hunter once, in 1954.
