The Army wants its soldiers to receive college credit for the training they receive.
In the College of the American Soldier participants will have the opportunity to pursue either a technical certification or a college degree.
A staff sergeant in the Army with 6-10 years should have the equivalent of an Associate's Degree.
A master sergeant or sergeant major will have the equivalent of a Bachelor's
Degree. The Army's Training and Doctrine Command will administer the program.
But, will other colleges and graduate schools recognize the degree?
Can a soldier finish his/her AA and transfer to a four year college?
Can a sergeant with twenty years and a "B.A." be accepted in a Masters program?
I think it's a great idea.
I spent as much time sitting at a desk learning in Navy schools in 2.5 years as I did in 4 years at a regular college.
But, will the colleges and accrediting institutions recognize that?
They should.
