Charles Shulz, creator of Peanuts...had a dark side.
Or did he?
Before creating Snoopy and the bunch, Shulz taught art with two fellows - Charles Brown and Linus Maurer.
Shulz also dated a red-haired girl who crushed his heart.
His escape...his passion to be a cartoonist.
Charles Shulz, Sparky to his family and friends, drew "Peanuts" for almost 50 years.
Those friends say he was "always missing something." Friends perhaps, who
weren't analyzing him maybe? The way he dispensed pyschiatric advice...for a nickel.Peanuts debuted on October 2nd 1950.
Shulz, it is said, could be playful, insecure and ponderous...Linus.
He could get lost in his art...Shroeder.
He could be rude...Lucy.
One friend says, "he lived in Snoopy's doghouse more or less."
Not strong in his relationships...he was firm in his Christian convictions.
In 1965 when he created a Peanuts Christmas special for TV he insisted:
1. no laugh track
2. children do the voice work
3. Linus recite from the Bible to demostrate the true meaning of Christmas
Shulz's second wife said her husband loved to laugh and joke and was usually optimistic.
Sounds like Shulz is pretty much like us...or is it just me.
Still, Charlie Brown 'never even got to kick the football.'
Which Peanuts character is your favorite?
I think I'll go with its creator with a small 'c' who firmly believed in the Creator with a capital 'C.'
