Today, October 11th, is National Coming Out Day.
I wonder, who's coming out?
Where are they coming out from?
Where are they going to?
LGBTs - I had no idea what that meant till just a couple of years ago.
Lesibian, Gay, Bisexual, Transexual...I think.
I went to Japan back in the early 1980's and stayed there for almost 20 years. Some might want to send me back and I wouldn't mind going sometimes.![]()
During that time, America 'came out' of the closet...with California leading the way, I heard.
Leading? - I am not sure. In the front, in the spotlight...for sure.
Tolerance, acceptance, openness...all good buzz words.
How about propriety, understanding, dignity? Those are good words, too.
I don't introduce myself by saying, "Hi, my name is Bill and my sexual orientation is...."
Why should anybody?
Since when does my acceptance of whomever preclude their acceptance of what I think?
There's a celebration of National Coming Out Day up the street from me at UC San Francisco.
I think I'll stay home.
How about you? Will you be celebrating today?

HAPPY NATIONAL COMING OUT DAY!
Here's a great contribution from two lesbian women to commemorate the National Coming Out Day:
The Ultimate Coming Out - Wow!
You can also go directly to FaithoftheAbomination.com. Their story will be told in a documentary film. I feel this will be groundbreaking for the GLBT community.
