I'm a faculty member at SU, and found your article
via a google search.

On the one hand, I completely agree she should have been more careful, and that she made a mistake.

On the other hand, I do not see the implication that
there must be a racist element involved. Would it be
racist to have the analogous picture while vacationing
in France with a caption that she had to "beat off the Frenchman because they were constantly flirting with my daughter"? I don't think so.

No, had she used one of the ethnic slurs found
here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Ethnic_slurs
instead of saying "Mexicans" (which is analogous
to Frenchmen) then that would be very different.

As far as showing pictures of herself in bathing suits,
it seems completely reasonable to have a different
choice in public versus private settings: sharing with
family and close friends is fine, but not to the general public, images of yourself on vacation while
you might be in a bathing suit, is not only reasonable
but the norm to share with family/close friends but
to keep a more formal profile in public. So I don't buy
the "which is it?" comment.

That said, I don't know her very well, so I can't
vouch for her personally, meaning, I can't stand
up and say I am 100% sure she has no racist leanings.
Just that there is no basis from the one sentence alone
to come to that conclusion.

Finally, do we have a "fascination at the horror"
reaction as a society with things like this? Is
is the fact that we fear so much, something
private of ours being exposed, that we
are, sometimes too quick to harshly jump
upon anyone else when it happens to them? Something
to think about..

Is Salisbury University President Janet Dudley-Eshbach Ph.D. a "slovenly and racist brute".

"I have it on good authority that this WAS an illegal Mexican. The NY Times is about to release an article about a Border Patrol agent named Jesus Fernadez who has testified that the Mexican depicted in the photo was illegally crossing the border via the Río Bravo del Norte the evening the photo was taken!

Additionally, the photo in question clearly shows that the bodily shape and clothing style of the accused, Dudley-Eshbach, Ph.D., is characteristic of a brute.

The picture also clearly shows Dudley-Eshbach, Ph.D. attempting to strike with malice the illegal Mexican for the sole purpose of getting his filthy brown hands off her daughter's creamy white thighs. That's racism!

As to slovenly, you be the judge of that!
