AP has discovered during a seven month investigation that there have been 2,500 cases of sexual misconduct - groped, raped, pursued, seduced...by the teachers who have been entrusted with the kids over the past five years.
That's almost three a day!!
There are some 3 million public school teachers in the United States and the percentage of misfits is very very smalll....but even infinitesimal is too large.
What about the abuse that goes unreported?
And what about repeat offenders...teachers who are booted from one school district but show up someplace else?
AP also learned that 4,400 of 110,000 priests were accused of molesting minors from 1950-2002. That's an even worse percentage.
Congress estimates that as many as 4.5 million of the nation's 50 million students are subject to sexual misconduct....that's almost one in ten.
