Japan's Educational Rebuilding Council wants laws to protect minors from using cell phones to get in trouble on the Internet
The big problem is children are solicited on dating services.
Last year, Japan solved 1,915 cases involving dating services on the Web.
Of those, 1,387 involved;
1. child prostitution,
2. child pornography,
3. confinement
4. violence.
Of those, 1,153 were children under 18.
Of those 1,153, a whopping 96.6% had accessed dating services via Web sites using their cell phones.
Amazingly, Japanese cell phones have filtering functions but only 30% of primary to high school students use the function. More accurately, parents do NOT use the filtering function.
96% of Japanese high schoolers use cell phones.
57% of middle schoolers use them.
31% of primary schoolers have a cell phone.
And, nearly all of those who have cell phones, 99, 97 and 86% respectively access the Web with their cell phones.
The result .... Japan's government has to tell the parents how to be parents.
Isn't it time for parents to be parents?Come on!
