The president of Miami University in Oxford, OH said "I am deeply troubled by this incident and the insensitivity that it reflects. I am dismayed that any person on this campus ...would even unintentionally create such a display."
An art student hung several nooses and a tire swing from a tree on the campus.
Okay...I sure would have been guilty.
A noose - racially insensitive? I don't get it...unless I go for a stretch.
Black people are not the only people who were ever hung, are they? In Japan capital punishment is carried out by hanging...Hussein was hung...they hang 'em in Texas.
Seriously, I don't get it.
The prez went on to say, "We must redouble our efforts as a community to educate every student here on the historic patterns of racism in this society."
Maybe....but not because of the nooses.
I think they ought rather to teach students what art is...perhaps redouble the art professor's efforts, too.
Nooses hanging from trees is not racially insensitive, except maybe to some, it's just plain a lousy excuse for art.
Shame on the art teacher, I think.
