Sudanese authorities will not let troops in from Scandinavia to help out as peacekeepers in Darfur, even as representatives of the United Nations.
A couple of years back Danish newspapers published caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad.
The cartoons set off riots across the world, resulting in several dozen people being killed.
The president of Sudan - “We in Sudan declared mobilization against the Scandinavians after the publishing of the offensive cartoons of the prophet.”
Consequently, the Sudanese people would not accept Scandinavian troops
because of this.
The UN says it is essential to include experts from developed countries, including teams from Norway and Sweden.
How utterly silly. I think that's the right word. Silly, or maybe stupid that extremists would riot over caricatures, cause death and refuse peace efforts.
No wonder there is unrest in Darfur. With people like this Sudan prez in charge.
