The Center for Innovation and Research in Graduate Education (CIRGE) has concluded that PhD students in social sciences need some basic help in finding a job.
The PhDs in anthropology, communications, geography, history, political science, and sociology are 'well prepared' but they need additional training in:
1. essential professional competencies
2. support for career preparation
3. learning to manage their careers
4. connecting research training with teaching
6. teamwork
7. working in interdisciplinary contexts
8. grant writing
9. managing people
10. managing budgets
It seems to me that PhDs know what they know and nothing else. I would hardly call them well prepared. How about you?
A study says that most PhDs are men and women in relationships, with children. Their situation influences their PhD careers.
Uh, men and women, welcome to the real world.
Maybe these Docs just need to get their noses out of their books and research and see what else goes on in the world.
What do you think?
