The Clemens um, Mitchell Report is out.
What can we learn -
1. Everybody was hoping someone else big would take a dive. Roger Clemens was first in the water. Barry Bonds now has miserable company.
2. Steroids work - In 1998, Clemens was 6-6 with a 3.27 ERA. After an injection in the butt he was literally unbeatable: 14-0 with a 2.29 ERA.
3. People, including MLB, can't be trusted to police themselves. Can you say independent agency?
4. You need to be lucky sometimes. Kirk Radomski was Mitchell's rabbit foot at the right time. When he was rubbed, things fell into place.
5. Lawyers will never talk straight, even when they really try. Fehr had to take a stab at feeling snubbed, having the 'relationship harmed.' Why do criminals ever get to feel snubbed?
6. It makes a difference when players cheat. "The minority of players who used such substances were wrong. They violated federal law and baseball policy, and they distorted the fairness of competition by trying to gain an unfair advantage over the majority of players who followed the law and the rules."
7. You can be wrong and still right. Frank Thomas was wrong but admitted it. Next?
