Dieting doesn't work. Life style changes do IF one can be successful in actually changing their life.
Not as easy as it sounds for sure.
Still there are practical steps that can be taken that can result in behavior changes = losing weight and keeping it off.
1. Motivate yourself - do it for yourself, not for someone else. A reunion is the number one reason for losing weight. But, what about after everyone goes home. You have to live with yourself.
2. Make changing your life a priority. Changing jobs, getting married, going to school, having kids, caring for parents...these can take precedent for sure. But, if making a change in the way you act isn't given importance, it isn't likely to happen.
3. Have a plan. Start date, goal, steps, end date.
4. Set attainable and incremental goals - write them down, tick them off, reward yourself when you make measureable changes.
5. Have good friends/examples around you - just because they eat it doesn't mean you can. Have like-minded friends, books, magazines, activities going on around you.
6. Watch out for food attacks - stay away from the tube, the fridge, Coldstone. Call a friend, take a walk, exercise first when the urges come.
7. Keep a log - a diary doesn't lie if you don't lie to it. There's something about making a confession of what you actually are eating to keep you from eating it.
8. Be happy for what you can do/eat, not what you cannot. Whatever you are cutting out, there is something just as fun or almost so to replace it.
9. Don't give up. Even you stumble, fold, break, get up and start again and again and again until you reach your goal.
It's downright fun doing what others cannot or won't.
Do it! Start now!
