Time Management for the College Student.
There are reasons why you want to break the goals down into small portions.
A guy once asked, how can you eat a whole pig? One bit at a time. You can’t cover a 10 mile walk in one step.
Getting a four year degree can be divided into four smaller goals…five for those cramming their studies into a longer period of time.
Each year can be divided into semesters or quarters.
Quarters can be broken down into weeks.
Weeks can be broken down into days.
Days can be divided into hours and minutes preparing for tests, doing assignments, writing papers.
On more than one occasion I have covered 100 miles by running. If I started out by thinking how far it was to the goal, it was quite discouraging. However, when I broke it down into miles it became more manageable. I didn’t need to run a hundred miles. I only needed to run one mile over and over again a hundred times. It worked for me.
Breaking down goals into small pieces where the end is seen and the means for accomplishing it is grasped is important. Knowing that one step takes you closer to accomplishing a bigger goal gives the smaller goal meaning and makes the process of doing something big more manageable.
Think about how the goals you listed previously can be broken down into smaller steps. You don’t buy all your Christmas presents at one time, do you?
