With a list of goals in mind,
1. imagine what it will take to do them, one at a time. Visualize the steps you need to take.
Carl Lewis was asked how he felt about winning an Olympic event. He responded by saying he had won it many times before ‘in his mind.’ If you can see it, you can accomplish it…usually.
2. don’t forget to enjoy the process of reaching your goals. Life is more fun if you can find immediate satisfaction as you work your way towards your goals than if you just concentrate on the final outcome.
Enjoy the good grades on one assignment. Celebrate, but not too long, achievements along the way.![]()
3. Watch out about setting goals that aren’t realistic. You won’t win an Olympic gold medal in the backstroke event if you can’t swim. Or if you learned how to swim today and the Olympics are next month, give it up. It’s unrealistic.
Recognizing your physical, mental and emotional limits is important. But, keep in mind that you can most always do more than you think you can. It is better to aim too high than too low.
With goals in mind, the next thing is to consider how long it will take to accomplish each task you need to in order to complete your overall goal.
