The Montpelier High School was ranked as one of the best high schools in America.
It isn't.
It's a good school perhaps, in the top 25%, but the not in the top five.
Why...Standard & Poor didn't check their math.
Turns out the school is among the top 500 of 18,000 schools in the States.
School officials pointed out the mistake to the magazine.
The magazine's editor says, "We feel terrible about having gotten it wrong in the first instance. We're in the business of getting these numbers right. It's particularly embarrassing that we're in the business of judging people based on their math scores, and we got our math wrong."
Apology accepted.
Kudos to the school, too for its honesty. Chances are, had they said nothing, nobody would have known, accept them.
One student says, "I don't really see us as one of the most amazing schools ever."
That's the real litmus test, isn't it? What the students know and think about their school.
