The X - stands for the the Greek letter pronounced chi (sounds like key NOT Kigh).
Chi happens to be the first letter in the Greek word for, you guessed it Christos,
kristos, Xpistos (my key board doesn't do Greek.) Christos is Christ.
In short, if you don't want to play Christmas with Christ, stay home.
Christ Jesus is the reason for the season. It's that simple.
