affluent - very wealthy. An affluent philanthropist's gift made the new school building possible.
avarice - greedy. Ticket scalpers at the Games can be accused of avarice.
dowry - money that a bride brings to her husband. The artist married a woman who brought a huge dowry, thus enabling him to pursue his passion.
fleece - charge excessively. The student who paid 10 grand for that used car was fleeced.
hoard - save, accumulate. My aunt hoarded every penny she could but couldn't take her fortune with her when she died.
lavish - spent/given too freely. The work is good but it doesn't deserve the lavish praise it is getting.
lucrative - profitable, money making. If you can't make it as a blogger, you might need to find a more lucrative business.
opulence - wealth, riches. The opulence of the upper class is quite a contrast to the indigence of the peasants in China.
