It took me three days to get past Genesis 1:1. At this rate it will take me about 93,309 days to get through the whole book.
It is estimated that there are some 31,103 verses, give or take 137. Old Testament has 23,145 and the New Testament has 7,958. There are 137 unnumbered verses that are added or dropped depending on which manuscripts you trust.
Any way, if I were to continue at the present pace of three posts per verse, it's going to take me about 255 years to get through the whole book.
The second verse - The earth was formless and void. It was dark and there were waters.
Some would like to say that God created the earth and all that goes with it only to have Satan mess things up making it necessary for God to start over. In other words, there's a gap between verse 1 and verse 2.
Those who would like to make the earth old - insert as much time as you would like here. Happy now?
As for me, I am a simple person. There is no gap between the first two verses.
The writer of Genesis, I'll go with Moses on that, is telling us that God had nothing to start with. There was nothing to take form; there was a void and it was dark.
Yeah, I believe in a young earth. More on that tomorrow.
