Celebrity scientist, Dr. J. Craig Ventor, says he and his team are close to creating an artificial life form.
When they finally succeed, they will be able to help the good fight against illnesses and global warming.
The group is going to attempt in the third of three stages to create (key word that I'll come back to) a a bacteria based purely "on the synthetic genome sequence of the Mycoplasma genitalium bacteria."
Never mind that this bacteria causes certain sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
The new bacteria will be largely (another key word) artificial. It will be composed of building blocks from already existing organisms.
If the word creation was used in any other sentence with the word scientist it was cause the page it was written on to explode.
If the bacteria needs a living organism to get a kick start, aren't we back to the basic law of biogenesis - life comes from life?
I've been on a warpath of late about global warming.
I feel like I need/want to do the same with intelligent design.
The man is not creating anything, he is just rearranging what has already been created.
Wouldn't his team be better off to put all the building blocks into a bag (cheating, I think), shake the bag and wait for a few billion of years for life to come about by accident?
