Bobby Knight was the winningest coach in Texas Tech history - 138-82 (.627) over seven years. Berl Huffman was second with .609.
Bobby Knight also won 902 career victories - basketball victories. He also defeated players, athletic directors and chairs, but those numbers aren't factored in.
Bobby Knight stepped down as head coach of the Raiders but not before he handed the baton to his son, Pat Knight, who was considered coach designate for the past three years.
1 - Knight reasoned it'd be good for his son to have the reins for the last 10 games. He can run the team and the players, most of whom will be back next year, meaning a better year next than the 12-8 record thus far this year.
2 - Knight also said an hour and a half meeting with legendary coach Pete Newell influenced him to step down/begin the transition now.![]()
3 - Knight's athletic director, Gerald Myers took over a team mid season 36 years ago, then coached for 20 years.
What about this passing of the baton to his son, though? Why aren't people calling foul? Nepotism!?
I was never a Knight fan. His teams won. I like firey individuals. But, I never came to like Knight.
Maybe because he thinks of himself, his timing, his circumstances more than he does about the kids he has been charged with.
What do you think?
