Japan wants its students to do better. Better than the world, I suppose.
The Education Ministry has issued new guidelines for the nation's students.
1. More hours of science - 33% more. And the students know how to calculate that increase, too!
2. More hours of math - 22% more.
3. More class hours overall - 10% more.
4. More content - previously removed content to be restored.![]()
5. More English study - mandatory now for fifth and sixth graders.
The new curriculum, the first increase in class hours in 40 years, will take place in 2011 and 2012. Some will take place next year.
Meanwhile, American students want to know why they can't have mandatory 30 minute breaks every hour to use their cell phones. And, while they are at it, could we decrease the 6 hour school day to 3 hours, with a two hour lunch break.
