Adam and Even sinned. They were on their way out of the Garden... naked.
God decided they needed clothing so He made garments of skin for the man and the woman. We can be sure that God did not want PETA after Him. The animals would have been slain humanely.
Indeed a took an animal sacrifice to cover up the nakedness and shame of the man and the woman.
It was going to take a greater sacrifice to cover up their sins. That sacrifice would come much later.
When we do wrong, we must pay for that wrong in some way. It's always been that way. It is still is.
