Johnson-Klein, the former California State University, Fresno women's basketball coach says she is content to accept a Fresno County Superior Court judge's reduced award of $6.6 million insteald of holding out for the $19.1 million that a jury awarded her.
Poor baby.
The judge said the jury's award was excessive. Three times too excessive.
And $6.6 million is NOT?!
Now it's up to CSU Fresno to comply with Johnson-Klein's 'speedy decision.'
The coach filed a lawsui alleging:
1. gender discrimination,
2. harassment and
3. retaliation.
A jury of 11 women and one man needed less than 4 hours of deliberations to unanimously side with the coach.
Surprise, surprise at that turn of events.
The reduced award does NOT include a $2.9 million fee for Johnson-Klein's attorney.
In the end, the CSU Fresno students and parents will pay this settlement.
Johnson-Klein has plans for a book - "Her gritty childhood in Oklahoma, her starring turn as a high school and college basketball player, her triumphs and burdens as a young Division I coach at Fresno State, her inside look at a gender-discrimination trial that riveted the central San Joaquin Valley."
Of course, she's not doing it for the money.
"I see myself as just being one small part," Johnson-Klein said. "There are so many pioneers in women's sports. I'm kind of a yearling, a young one coming along. But I would like to help."
You can be darn sure her lawyer is in it for the money.
$6.6 million would make me less eager for the money, too.
How about you?
