Prince Charles is my 9th cousin. What that means is nothing. I never get invited to anything, weddings, funerals, dinners with heads of state, tea, a polo match, even to fetch someone's slippers. And, I sure am not related because of anything I did. I was just born. My roots are my roots.
But, I am glad to be the 10th cousin of the 3rd in line to throne - Harry, especially, and his brother William. I think they named William after me, but I am not sure.
23-year old Harry is a real prince.
Why?
1. He just spent 10 weeks on the front lines in Afghanistan secretly fighting the Taliban. The British media kept the news quiet. When the Aussie, Germany and US media leaked the news, he had to return for fear that the knowledge of his presence might jeopardize the men and women he was fighting with.
2. Harry cares about the people he fights with more than himself. No insistence on staying, fighting more, for whatever reason he might think is right.
3. "You do what you have to do, what's necessary to save your own guys. If you need to drop a bomb, worst case scenario, then you wil, but then that's just the way it is." Harry knows you have to create some havoc sometimes in order to have peace in the long run.
4. The men who lost limbs, got blown up, blown away is who Harry recognizes as the real heroes. It's not always what you are willing to do, but sometimes what you give up that really distinguishes you from the pack.
5. "Yeah, I would love to go back out ... I want to go out very, very soon," he said. Harry understands the need to finish what he started.
I say we skip Charles and William and put Harry on the throne.
He's a real prince.
