The president of Lake City Community College in FL says, “We can run the college without an athletic program, but we can’t run the athletic program without the college.”
He's got that part right.
The school was spending $579K on baseball, softball and golf and was getting nothing in return.
Prospects were being sent out, kids were getting a chanc
e, and the coach apparently was very well respected. But, who's going to pay for it?
Perhaps it wouldn't hurt a whole lot of schools, okay all of them, to do away with their athletic programs and get back to teaching.
Oh, but what about...? Yeah, they can play sports and get an education elsewise. Let schools be schools.
