A friend sent this bit to me -
Keep the Christ in Christmas... [Mark Steyn]
...but take His Resurrection out of Easter:
"The pastors at this church in Raleigh, North Carolina, were perplexed when they saw the Holy Week Sunday school lessons for preschoolers from "First Look," the publisher of the one to five year-old Sunday school class materials. There wasn't a mention of the resurrection of Jesus. Naturally, the pastors inquired about the oversight. It turns out it was no oversight...
"Easter is a special time in churches," the letter from the publisher says. "It's a time of celebration and thankfulness. But because of the graphic nature of the Easter story and the crucifixion specifically, we need to be
careful as we choose what we tell preschoolers about Easter."
So now the story ends with the Last Supper - and presumably afterwards Jesus and His friends watch Elmo and then go to bed. That the foundational event of your faith is now excessively "disturbing" is almost too parodoxic a reduction of the Wimp Christianity of the mainline churches.
How about if we take the 'ch' out of church? Reminds me too much of Christ.
And why not call it Xianity while we are at it?
Why don't we just throw out Sundays, rename it to Saturday II so people everywhere won't know what to do on their day of worship?
Easter is resurrection day. There's a reason the resurrection is celebrated the world over on this particular Sunday and in many churches EVERY Sunday. Jesus Christ rose from the dead on that day AFTER he was crucified.
Some people are going to be awful surprised by the truth some day.

To be fair Bill, Easter and Resurrection day were combined in an effort to appease pagan converts so I can somewhat understand the confusion. But what I don't understand is not teaching anyone in church - at any age - about Christs death, burial and resurrection. That is a cornerstone of Christianity and even pre-schoolers should learn about it.
