California and her 30+ million residents has a problem. Okay, many problems. But, one that concerns TheBizOfKnowledge.
There's a serious racial achievement gap.
Blacks, Latinos, Whites and Asians are far apart in education achievement and it's not all about being economically disadvantaged or not.
Blacks and Lations who are NOT economically disadvantaged score proficient or better at 40 and 42 percent respectively.
Whites and Asians who ARE economically disadvantage score at 41 and 48 percent.
Economically secure Blacks and Latinos score proficient at a 30 and 36 percent rate respectively. Whites - 38% and Asians 54% score well despite economic hardship.
What's up with that?
Why can't Blacks and Latinos keep up with Whites and Asians when the "we don't have a chance because we are poor" excuse is taken away?
