1. Garrett Weber-Gale is a native of Fox Point, WI.
2. As s a 22-year old he qualified for the Olympics in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle.
These events are used to determine who the fastest man in the water is.
3. Weber-Gale trained at and competed for university of Texas in Austin and finished 7th in the 100 free style as an 18 year old at the 2004 Olympic trials.
In the 100 freestyle, 6 people go to Olympics because of the 4x100 free style relay.
4. Four years later Weber-Gale came back and qualified in two events that are known to be two of the most competitive events in swimming. It is like the 100m and 200m in track and field.
5. He not only came back to qualify but he also won both events setting American records in both of them.
The US has not won the 100 freestyle since the 88 Olympics. In 04, US swimmers did not even qualify for the finals. Another note, the US also has not won their signature event 4x100 freestyle relay in the past two Olympics.
6. With Weber-Gale, the American sprinting team looks promising.
