1. Gil Stovall a native a Memphis Tennessee.
2. He qualified for the Olympic swim team in the 200 meter butterfly.
3. Stovall competed for and trains at the University of Georgia.
4. In 2004 Olympics Stovall, as an 18 year old, failed even to make it in to the finals (top 8) with a time of 2.00.23 in the 200 meter butterfly.
What a difference four years makes.
5. Stovall not only qualified for the event but went close to 7 seconds faster with a time of 1 minute and 53.83 seconds.
6. This time is the second fastest time in the history.
7. Stovall also finished third in the 100 butterfly, finishing behind two world record holders.
The US has a reputation for good strong butterflyers with dominating swimmers in the past and present such as Tom Malchow, Michael Phelps.
8. Stovall is going to be the next one added to the list I think.
