Tarifica Publisher To Address ITU WTI Session

Geneva, Switzerland (PRWEB) October 10, 2006 -– John Lilley, EMEA Director for The Telecom Intelligence Group and publisher of U.K. consultancy Tarifica, a division of The Telecom Intelligence Group, will address International Telecommunication Union (ITU) delegates later this week on the key tariff-definition issues facing service providers and regulators.

The invitation to speak at the ITU’s fifth World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (WTI) meeting reflects Tarifica’s pre-eminence in tariff information and analysis, covering fixed, mobile, Internet and, increasingly, such content services as video. “John’s leadership role in this important industry-wide discussion shows the growing international recognition being afforded to our outstanding research team,” comments Mike O’Neill, vice president and publisher for The Telecom Intelligence Group.

This ITU meeting, organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), has been taking place regularly since 1996. The purpose of the meeting is to review the state of telecommunication/ICT statistics, definitions, collection, methodology and dissemination. The impressive growth and changes in the sector called for the revision of existing definitions.

“We’ve seen a lot of triple- and quadruple-play-type offers come onto the market in recent months,” says Lilley. “That trend together with new technologies starting to make an impact in 2006 means it’s a fitting juncture to reflect on how tariffs are changing and how best to track, interpret and benchmark them at an inter-country level.”

Prior to joining The Telecom Intelligence Group, Lilley spent nine years with research company Gartner, where he held a variety of senior positions including chief analyst worldwide/Fixed Network Services. In that position, he was responsible for the definition and segmentation of operator services in each global region. Lilley also devised and launched many ground-breaking research programs including “Voice over Packet Networks,” “Internet Access Europe,” “IP Backbone Strategies” and “Internet Infrastructure.” In addition, Lilley formulated and directed Gartner’s research agenda during the liberalization of European telephony markets, and he introduced actionable statistical analysis of the voice and data wholesale markets.
